MANIFESTED IN WOOD
Papa Minnick discovered wood as a medium for sculpture late in her undergraduate studies. It was a transformative experience, being so enamored with the material and its potential applications. She completed this series of sculptures in her final year and presented the body of work at ASU’s Step Gallery. They are carved, joined, bent and painted wood pieces. With names like Big Bellied Bark and Rosy Rumped Roots, she saw them as wood creatures, manifesting physical insecurities in a lighthearted, playful sort of way.
